10 Best Laptops For Hackintosh 2016

I know what are thinking. First, you were probably wondering “how can I use my Windows laptop as a MacBook Pro alternative?“.

Reason: MacBook is deadly expensive.

Then, someone told you this word: Hackintosh .

He might have said that you should go and buy a “good Hackintosh laptop”. Well, good Hackintosh Laptop is the one that has minimum compatibility issues (we’ll talk more about this Hackintosh concept  in later paragraph).

And now, you want to know answer of another simple question.

“What are the best Hackintosh laptops by the way?”

Because buying a Macbook Pro is pretty costly.

And if you have broken its screen, keyboard or damage any other hardware, you may wonder whether you have to spend again $2000 for this? That is where “Hackintosh” concept comes into Business. Although an apparently complex term, Hackintosh is basically a non-Apple machine which is “Hacked” to run Apple’s OS on it – as simple as that. So you may wonder what actually are the Best Laptops For Hackintosh to Buy in 2015. But it’s not that easy either.

Because, you see, Apple’s OS – whether it’s Mavericks or Yosemite – is not designed to run on non-Apple computers – be it PCs or Laptops. Because the architecture of their Hardware & OS is not like others (Little Endian, Big Endian and all that Geeky stuff). That’s why it probably won’t work quite well in some ordinary laptop.

That being said, most common things won’t work can be WiFi, Bluetooth, USB ports, Function Keys and brightness adjustment etc.

So that’s why, in this article, I’ll tell you which laptops are Best to use for Hackintosh in 2015. These are the most compatible ones that are around the corner. In case you wanna see any backpack for a Laptop, here are Best Backpacks to Buy in 2015. So having said that much already, let’s begin our topic:

An Update:

As may have know that this article was first published more than 4 months ago. I recently updated it, but now, again, I’ve found some sexy hackintosh laptops you can easily use. So instead of replacing old laptops with new ones, I have kept them both. So now this list is probably has 15 laptops instead of 10.

Important Note:

This list can be categorized in two parts: first 8 laptops (from 15 to 8) are old but more compatible laptops than the last 7 laptops (7 to 1), which are more up-to-date hardware specs but a little less compatible. In short, it depends on what you want more: High specs or More Compatibility.

A 7-hour battery life, quite good for a windows notebook. It has a core M-5Y10 Processor and an 8 GB DDR3 RAM. No optical Drive option but what you get is 256 GB of SSD. 2. Lenovo Y50-70: Buy Now

Lenovo-Y50-70 10 Best Laptops For Hackintosh 2015

As I said earlier, this laptop wasn’t in original list which I first published in April. Few days back, I noticed it while researching on some other topic. I couldn’t resist myself but to include this one.

It carries a 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor and 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM to do all the computations. It also has a 15.6″ FHD IPS LED Backlight display. For storage, it has a 500 GB Hard drive plus 8 GB Solid State Drive too. For graphics handling, it contains NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB Dedicated Graphics Card.

Hackintosh Ability:

Here is a part where you may feel disappointed – a little bit. Because by installing OS X, you won’t to able to use its dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M (Since OS X don’t support dedicated cards) and Intel Wireless-AC 3160 too. But think yourself, Would you dump a near-perfect hackintosh laptop just because you can’t play games on it?

Bottom Line:

If you don’t keep your focus on its Graphics Cards’ incompatibility, it can be pretty strong candidate. In case you want a hackintosh laptop. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide On TonyMac and YouTube Installation Guide .

1. Lenovo Z50: Buy Now

Having a 4th generation i7 processor as its heart, Lenovo Z50 can be your ideal replacement for Macbook Pro. Even then, it has plenty more to offer you through its 1TB Hard Disk Drive, an 8 GB DDR3 RAM,  15.6″ Touchscreen and many other things. In the context of Hackintosh compatibility, you don’t need to worry about anything. Almost everything works perfectly fine. Be it USB ports (2.0 & 3.0), Ethernet, Touchpad or Bluetooth 4.0. Other utility features such as audio, Brightness Control, Intel Graphics HD 4000 also works without any glitches.

Hackintosh Ability:

One single major issue you may have is Wi-Fi. Though has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connectivity, it will not work when you use it for Hackintosh. For this reason, you will probably have to buy a separate WiFi Dongle.

Bottom Line:

With all things working except Wifi, Lenovo Z50 can be your (second) nearest replacement for Macbook Pro 15″. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide here.

Final Words:

So that was the list of 10 Best Hackintosh Laptops, these laptops are the most compatible ones you can find for Hackintosh. 1. I have the Perfect Hackintosh.

Acer Aspire 4752 – replaced WIFI card with Atheros AR9285, Updated RAM from 4GB to 8GB (fixes graphics corruption entirely). That is all.

NOTE: Only issue is encrypted/locked BIOS does NOT SUPPORT booting from GUID drives – AT ALL. Used MBR patched installer and all is fine.

Every single thing in the laptop works perfectly. Power Management, SpeedStep, Sleep/Wake, HDMI, VGA, QI/CE/OpenGL, Touchpad, Audio-AppleHDA, Card Reader, WIFI, Bluetooth, Battery Readings, USB2, USB3, Ethernet, DVD-Burner, nvRAM, kextcache… EVERYTHING PERFECT. I am only running Mavericks 10.9.5 (as I’m afraid to update in case it stops working). Been working on getting this laptop perfect for about a year now. I have a guide and kextpack/DSDT/SSDT available on insanelymac forum.

    • First of all, thank you for sharing this precious piece of information.
      Let us check this laptop.
If it’s worthy of being in this list. We’ll definitely included it in our list.

    • themacmeister, I’ve checked that Acer Aspire 4752 has a problem that it is an old laptop and also not available in stores like amazon.com .

    • I have a Aspire 4752. Now I want to install hackintosh. Which method did you apply? Please help me to give the tutorial link. Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi! Excuse my simple question but is this list sorte in a ranking mode, so 15th lptop is ranked as the worst laptop and the 1st one is ranked as the best one for hackintosh? Thanks 🙂

    • Yup! it is sorted. But apart from hackintosh compatibility, we’ve also considered some other factors such as Specs, Which Intel Core Gen does it belong and Price too — so that it you won’t you even more than a macBook itself.

        • It depends on wat you prefer. If you want great specs and care a little less about compatibility, then there are some other laptops 5th Gen like I listed in this post. But is you want specs as well as compatibility then 4th-Gen laptos like Lenovo z50 and Y50-70 are good. Lenovo y%0-70 is expensive. That’s why I’ve chosen Z50 as the best Hackintosh laptop. Everyone has a different opinion though. And it will seem fair, even if anyone of you, disagreed with me.

          • I agree. In my opinion, Lenovo Z50 is a good choice, and I think it’s a better choice than Lenovo Y50-70, due to its dedicated video card and the compatibility problems that dedicated video cards have with Mac OS X.

    • Yes, you can use it. But like other laptops, it will have compatibility issues. Most common scenario will be Graphics Card not working. Therefore, you will have to rely on Intel Graphics.

  3. okkkk but
plz can u tell me one more thing
what kind of problams i will face in asus ROG GL 552
    plz tell me i details

in the end thnx for your work
    and plz keep it up…………………..

    • Thanks ben, it feels good to hear such nice words from you.
Now coming back to your question, there is no specific guide for Asus ROG GL 552 hackintosh installation.
Instead, use general Yosemite guide using clover. I’ve also found a YouTube video for this purpose. You can Watch it here. Its uploader says it works perfect for hackintosh.
But still, be prepare for some minor problems like WiFi, Bluetooth or Graphics Card not working. I couldn’t find any specific problem. But as you know, these are common problems and there is not a single Hackintosh laptop that works without any hiccup – except some old ones Leovo B570.

  4. Thank you for your article! I have a question: There are no drivers, ketxs, or any way for nvidia laptops cards can working with OS X Yosemite?

Only integrated cards of laptops can work in hackitosh?

    Greetings and thank you!!

  5. hi can you confirm that osx can be installed on asus G55vw. If so can you please link me to a guide that describe the intall process. I have tried in the past before giving up. Thanks

  6. any way is it possible to install osx on Lenovo G50-80??
    Specs below:
    I5 5200 U Broadwell processor
    Intel HD 5500 Graphics
    12 GB 1600 MHz RAM
    Lenovo V95 BIOS
    500 GB SSD

    • Nitin you’ll be able to install OS X on your G50-80, but it’ll be far from perfect. In most cases, your 5500 Intel HD graphics won’t work. Nonetheless, if you still want OS X on your machine, here’s a link I found pretty useful.
      Hope that would help ya!

  7. What would be the best “gaming” laptops that are compatible for Hackintosh setups currently as of February 2016?

Specifically which ones would be most compatible for Dual-Booting of the latest Windows and Mac OSes, Windows 10 and El Capitan respectively?

According to this list I am only assuming the choices are probably either ASUS G55VW or Lenovo 50-70, or could I be wrong and there are still other available options.

      • I checked this Dell laptop out and it was on your list.

I learned that the only catch or currently known issues are WiFi and the Bluetooth not working. I could probably be fine without Bluetooth, but no WiFi would be problematic unless there is a workaround.

Other than that I don’t see any dedicated video card or GPU such as an AMD Radeon or nVidia GPU on this Dell Laptop, which would be ideal for a laptop used for Gaming purposes.

So I’m assuming for someone that wants a good gaming Machine that is capable of Dual Booting the latest Mac OS X and the latest Windows OS would have to pick primarily between either

ASUS G55VW, Lenovo 50-70 or the Dell Inspiron 15 7548 with only the Asus and Lenovo laptops having a dedicated nVidia GPU.

Hopefully the list would expand more eventually or perhaps maybe a specialized “Gamer’s Laptops that are very Hackintosh friendly or mostly Hackintosh Compatible”, or something like

The Best “Gaming” Laptops currently known and available on the market that are the MOST Compatible with a Hackintosh setup.

      • hi muhammad, first of all thanks for the list . I was looking for a gaming laptop which is hackintosh compatible and I shortlisted lenovo Y50-70. As told in the post that it does not detect the dedicated graphics. if I install two operating systems or dual boot (windows (any) and mac osx(any version)) it and then open windows os in it , will it then detect the nvidia graphic card? Will it work like a gaming laptop?

        • In short if you want to be able to use the NVidia Graphics card for your games you will have to boot into Windows, it’s just the way it is right now with the whole architecture and structure of Hackintosh laptops and there are absolutely no known workarounds unless somehow somebody over at Apple leak some secret code or part of the Mac’s engineering then maybe just maybe that it would eventually make it possible, but it’s only theoretically. At this time it is an absolute “NO” as you cannot use NVidia Optimus dedicated graphic cards on ANY Hackintosh (modified/unauthorized/unofficial NON-Apple systems running Mac OS X). This would only be worth it to test out some Mac OS X applications and programs that do not require anything other than an Intel Integrated Graphics Chipset, and if you were like working in the IT department or industry and would want to save some money instead of buying a MacBook Pro laptop or something.

At the moment the best that Apple could do for a decent or average “gaming” laptop is the 2.5 GHz MacBook Pro with an AMD Radeon R9 M370X dedicated GPU. Nothing else beyond that and they still haven’t said anything about upgrading in the future to support Oculus, but if they ever do then you can probably reconsider and not bother with Hackintoshes that is “IF” you have the money to burn as if Apple ever does come out with Oculus Compatible MacBooks then they will probably be very very expensive gaming laptops.

  8. Hi,
This question may sounds extremely stupid, though I´ve try to search for Lenovo Z50 and can only find Z50-Z70 or Z50-Z75. Are these the same models that you are referring to in this review? What are the diferences and what should I go for?

    • Lavado, these two models (which you’ve mentioned) aren’t exactly same but they aren’t entirely different either.
Instead, they are variations of Lenovo z50 with some very minor differences in terms of specs.

      • Muhammad, thank you for your prompt feedback. Appreciate it.

If I opt for the Z50-Z70 or Z50-Z75, will I face any problem that wouldn’t with the Z50?

Are you able to clear me out about the difference in specs?

        • Well, the main difference between two of your mentioned notebooks is that Z50-70 uses a Nvidia Graphics card (GTX 840M) whereas z50-75 uses the one from AMD. Thanks why z50-75 is cheaper.
Now as far as hackintosh comaprtibility is concerned, you can’t use their graphcis card or probably Wireless Card too.

  9. Hello,
As of April 2016 what currently is the best laptop music and video production that I can use for a hackintosh? I was looking into the Lenovo Z50 as the first choice.
    Thank you very much.

  10. my laptop is dell inspiron 3542 i5-4210U .now i would like to change my os from windows to hackintosh is it supportable or not?

  11. Yes it is possible and it is very easy to do it. Just follow installation guide for HP 450 G1. I have already done on it.

  12. Hello Muhammad, I need your expert advice on a Dell Inspiron 3452, can it be hackintoshed to, say Mavericks? It has an Intel Celeron N3050 and Intel HD graphics. Thanks!

  13. Hi Nice work! I have a quick question for you. Will Hackintosh work on a lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBD?
Thanks in advance and keep up with the great work!!!

  14. Hello Muhammad..

Well it’s Sept 2016 and it would be cool if there were an update on this list of laptops with some newer laptops coming out in 2016 … Also seen a sweet deal on a Lenovo Z50 with a 120GB & 240GB combo …

  15. good. list – on the G780 – i agree – it was a relatively easy hack – just had to make some DSDT mods for sleep/wake – the trackpad is indeed supported by voodoops2controller.kext. in my case, I had got replace the intel wifi. runs Sierra fine.
