In Today’s world, Tallest buildings show a glimpse of human greatness. Though a large number of people have Acrophobia, some people may want to go as high as they can.
From the Great Pyramids of Giza in Ancient times, to Burj Khalifa of Modern age, men always have the desire to construct buildings more taller than ever, and breach that height limit while doing so. That’s why I’ve presented a list of Top five Buildings around the Globe, as of now.
The criteria, I’ve implemented is that a building should be used for Public purposes and completed, to be in this list. That was the reason I haven’t include buildings like Tokyo Skytree in this list. So here we started:
Formerly known as Taipei World Trade Center, Taipei 101 was started for construction in 1999 and was completed in 2004. It became the tallest building in this world, upon its building, and remained so until 2010, when it was replaced by Burj Khalifa.
Situated in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan, it has 101 floors above and 5 floors down the ground level. As of now, it is the largest Green Building around the World. Its height is 1667 ft. Its estimated cost is US$ 1.934 billion.
Sometimes also referred as Freedom Tower, One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the Western World and Fourth in overall list. It is situated in Lower Manhattan, New York. This 104-story structure also has strong connection with Twin Towers, which were destroyed during 9/11 attacks.
Its construction was started way back in 2006 and completed in late 2014. Its total height is 1776 ft, giving its reference to American Independence day, Fulfilling its cause of National Solidarity. Its estimated cause is US$ 3.9 billion.
Also known as Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower, Abraj Al Bait is a building complex in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It was built as an attempt to modernize the Holy City of Mecca, mainly to facilitate Hajj pilgrims. It is just a few meters away from World’s largest mosque, Masjid Al Haram.
Its construction was started in 2004 and was completed in 2012. It is also the world’s tallest Hotel. Its height is 1972 ft. According to Saudi Officials, its estimated cost is a whopping US$ 15 billion.
Shanghai Tower is another super-tall sky-scrapper in this list. Situated in Lujiazui, Pudong, Shanghai, it is the tallest of the three adjacent buildings situated in Pudong, other two are Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai World Trade Center.
Its construction began in 2008 and currently it is the tallest building in China. It is about to be opened for public use in mid-2015. Height of this 121-story mega-structure is 2073 ft. Its estimated cost is US$ 4.2 billion.
And now here it is, tallest building in this planet. Also known as Burj Dubai before its opening, Burj Khalifa is currently the Tallest Building in this World and topping this list. Its construction was began in 2004 and was part of a new 490-acre investment called Downtown Dubai. It is situated at First Interchange along the Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai’s main Business District.
Opened for public use in 2010, it contains 30,000 homes, Nine Hotels 7.4 acres of Parking-Area. Main idea behind construction of Burj Khalifa was to transform country’s oil based economy to tourism based. Its total height is 2722 ft. Its estimated cost is US$ 1.5 billion.
