I know what are thinking. First, you were probably wondering “how can I use my Windows laptop as a MacBook Pro alternative?“.
Reason: MacBook is deadly expensive.
Then, someone told you this word: Hackintosh .
He might have said that you should go and buy a “good Hackintosh laptop”. Well, good Hackintosh Laptop is the one that has minimum compatibility issues (we’ll talk more about this Hackintosh concept in later paragraph).
And now, you want to know answer of another simple question.
Because buying a Macbook Pro is pretty costly.
And if you have broken its screen, keyboard or damage any other hardware, you may wonder whether you have to spend again $2000 for this? That is where “Hackintosh” concept comes into Business. Although an apparently complex term, Hackintosh is basically a non-Apple machine which is “Hacked” to run Apple’s OS on it – as simple as that. So you may wonder what actually are the Best Laptops For Hackintosh to Buy in 2015. But it’s not that easy either.
Because, you see, Apple’s OS – whether it’s Mavericks or Yosemite – is not designed to run on non-Apple computers – be it PCs or Laptops. Because the architecture of their Hardware & OS is not like others (Little Endian, Big Endian and all that Geeky stuff). That’s why it probably won’t work quite well in some ordinary laptop.
That being said, most common things won’t work can be WiFi, Bluetooth, USB ports, Function Keys and brightness adjustment etc.
So that’s why, in this article, I’ll tell you which laptops are Best to use for Hackintosh in 2015. These are the most compatible ones that are around the corner. In case you wanna see any backpack for a Laptop, here are Best Backpacks to Buy in 2015. So having said that much already, let’s begin our topic:
As may have know that this article was first published more than 4 months ago. I recently updated it, but now, again, I’ve found some sexy hackintosh laptops you can easily use. So instead of replacing old laptops with new ones, I have kept them both. So now this list is probably has 15 laptops instead of 10.
This list can be categorized in two parts: first 8 laptops (from 15 to 8) are old but more compatible laptops than the last 7 laptops (7 to 1), which are more up-to-date hardware specs but a little less compatible. In short, it depends on what you want more: High specs or More Compatibility.
HP ProBook 4530s is a good entry-level laptop that you easily convert into a hackintosh. Packing a 2.3 GHz core i3 processor, a 4GB RAM and a 500GB conventional Hard Drive, it is nice laptop to buy. Besides this, it also has has some other basic features like Face Recognition, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and USB 3.0 port.
If you want a laptop that is fully compatible with Hackintosh, then you should simply go for it. Almost all the components works fine in this laptop.WiFi, audio, Ethernet, sleep, Bluetooth, USB 3.0, the battery meter, the trackpad, and even the SD card reader. Only things that don’t work are external microphone, screen brightness and Bluetooth etc.
With approximately all things working, you should go for it if all you want is a good, decent, inexpensive Hackintosh. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide .
HP Probook is very popular when it comes for Hardware Support for Mac OS. And this laptop, HP Probook 4540s, is not an exception. It packs an Intel i5 CPU clocked at 2.6 GHz, 8GB RAM and 750 GB Hard Drive. It also a discrete Graphics Card but it will be useless after installing OS X, since OS X only supports integrated Graphics Cards. Its battery life is around 4 hours.
For Hackintosh, apparently all of its features work like sound, touch pad gestures, power management, graphics, sleep mode, the HDMI (audio + port), the battery indicator, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 as well as Ethernet. Unlike previous laptops of Probook line, WiFi will not work this time. Bluetooth and External Microphone will also not work.
Main advantage this laptop will give you is its easy-to-setup nature for Hackintosh. Because as I said earlier, Probook line have quite well support for OS X. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide .
Dell Inspiron is first Dell laptop in our list. Main attribute of this laptop is its lower price than most of the laptops in this laptop. That doesn’t mean that it is short in specs though. Released in 2012, it the capacity to match with any laptop inch-to-inch. First, it runs an Intel i7 dual Core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD plus a DVD RW.
Other features include Webcam, Built-in Speakers, 2 USB 3.0 ports, Multi-Format Digital Media Card Reader, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and Gigabit Ethernet etc. It has a whooping Battery life of around 12 hours of Battery life.
By Hackintosh, you can have some issues like WiFi or Bluetooth .So you may have to buy an external one. Mac OS only support WiFi cards from Broadcom and Atheros. But Its battery life of 12 hours easily covers other deficiencies.
Apart from common Hackintosh problems like WiFi and Bluetooth, here is no such serious issue. But this is the only laptop that will make you feel like having a Macbook pro, through its Battery life. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide .
Like Inspiron 5537, XPS 15-9062sLV is a Dell laptop. Its specs are marginally better than Inspiron 5537’s. It runs an Intel Core i7 processor running at 2.2 GHz, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 750 GB Hard Disk Drive plus 32GB Solid State Drive ( enable your OS – Windows or OS X, to run super fast). It also has NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M Graphic Card.
Its other pros include sleek and minimalist design (It will almost look like a Macbook pro after installing OS X), its touchpad is probably the best around – barring Mac Books. It has around 5 hours of Battery life which is not so bad considering that it has a quad core i7 processor and a built-in Graphic Card.
Apparently, this laptop has no serious deficiencies for Hackintosh. But you probably have to watch out for Bluetooth, WiFi and Graphic Card etc.
A solid built laptop with sleek design and decent specs – it’s tough to ignore that.
Generally considered to be a very good for gaming purposes, Asus G55VW can also be molded into a very good Hackintosh laptop. First thing first, let us talk about its gaming guts. It has Intel Core i7 processor running at 2.3GHz. Rather than decreasing clock speed to reduce heat, Asus has actually allowed to you increasing its clock speed up to 3.5 GHz. That doesn’t mean that you will have a very warm lap though.
Other than this, it has a 12 GB RAM and 750GB Hard Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M Graphics card with 2GB of dedicated Graphics RAM. One main area where it comes short is its meager battery life of 3.5 hours. But it’s hardly a surprise since, it is fully clocked plus a built-in graphic card plus dedicated Graphics RAM.
From Hackintosh point of view, all the main components work correctly like WiFi/Bluetooth/Ethernet, SD card, USB 3.0 recognition and Power Sleep etc. Graphic Card works as well. But it some minor features are missing like Back-light on keyboard and Battery Charging info.
Except some minor functionality, everything is near perfect. And most awesome part is that you can get it on nearly half price when comparing to that of Macbook Pro.
Lenovo G780 is an Intel i5-powered laptop that can also be considered as an option for Hackintosh. Other than this, it has Broadcom 802.11n Wi-Fi module, Atheros AR8162/8166/8168 PCI-E Fast Ethernet socket, Bluetooth v 4.0 and OneKey Rescue System – A quick backUp and restore system. Surprisingly its WiFi, Bluetooth, Battery percentage, USB ports, Keyboard all work fine in it. Not to forget that it also has 6 GB RAM and 750GB SATA HDD. It has an average battery life of 4-5 hours.
Although WiFi works in it, it doesn’t mean that whole installation of Mac OS comes error free. Its non-working parts are track-pad and most importantly – its Nvidia Graphic Card.
Unlike most of other laptops, WiFi will work in it. But Graphic Card and track-pad support is missing. So you will have to buy a mouse. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide .
HP has given has many decent laptops in recent years through its Pavilion and Probook series. This particular laptop also has all the attribute of a good, nice and comfortable laptop for Hackintosh. Both Mavericks and Yosemite work just fine on it – with minimum number of issues. From Bluetooth to Graphics and from USB Ports to Audio – all is well.
In account of its specs, it has an Intel i5 processor, 8GB DDR3 RAM and 750GB of internal Hard Drive. Its Battery life is around 5 hours. Good but not up to the top standards of Macbook Pro.
Like many other Laptops in this list, it has some issues regarding WiFi. Other than this, Card Reader and sleep mode may not work as well.
Apart from WiFi, all the component work good here, making it an obvious choice. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide.
Asus X501A can be described as a budget alternative, if you want to go for Hackintosh Laptop. It runs an Intel Celeron B820 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 320GB Hard Disk Drive. USB 3.0 port plus one USB 2.0 port, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3 port (plus a USB 2 port), Bluetooth 4, 802.11n Wi-Fi and both HDMI and VGAWi-Fi 802.11n and both HDMI, VGA outputs. Its battery life can last 6 hours of good usage.
Like other laptops in this list, main source of concern for this laptop is WiFi, bluetooth and other small things like that. But even if these doesn’t work, it don’t make it a deal breaker because you can buy an external one of these modules.
Final verdict is that this laptop is ideal for you, if you want to experience OS X but at a cheaper level (6 times cheaper, to be precise). You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide .
Lenovo IdeaPad U430 is another top-notch candidate for your macbook pro. Its specs include a 4th generation Haswell processor plus a 4 GB RAM and 500GB Hard Drive. Besides its other pros like Good heat management and ultra-lightness, what I like the most about this machine is that it has got a very gorgeous and sleek design. Other than this, it has a 7-8 hours of normal battery life using windows. It should be more or less same on OS X.
Some features of OS X like Messages/FaceTime, special Function keys like F7 and card reader may not work fully. You may also need Atheros AR9280 WiFi (AR5BHB92)
Other than some keys, card reader and WiFi all is perfect in this machine – as for Hackintosh.
It is the cheapest 4th-Gen Notebook you can buy for hackintosh. For calculations it has Intel Core i5-4210U at 1.70 GHz, of course you can turbo Boost it to 2.7 Ghz. It has a 15.6″ HD LED-backlit at 1366 x 768 resolution that supports 10-finger multi-touch screen (Yeas, it’s got touchscreen too.)

It also has an 8 GB DDR3L RAM and 1 TB SATA Hard Drive. It has a 15.6″ Truelife LED-Backlit Touch Display with Wide Viewing Angles and In-Plane Switching (IPS) at 1920×1080 resolution. No SSD here, which is a disappointment considering the facts that it is 5th-generation laptop. Other goodies are Intel HD Graphics 5500 , Webcam, Bluetooth 4.0, dual band WIFi at 2.4 and 5Ghz.
It has no specific guide. Instead, get help from general Yosemite installation using Clover guide. You can expect general issues like WiFi, Bluetooth not working.
Sometime ago, a friend asked me, if he can used his Core M laptop Lenovo Yoga as a hackintosh. I wasn’t sure that time, having read that there are severe compatibility issues. But not any more. This laptop, Zenbook UX305FA is best Core M notebook you can use for hackish.
First, it is only fan-less Hackintosh laptop in this list,. So be sure to have a dead-quiet sound. Having no fan means extended battery life and it does. A 7-hour battery life, quite good for a windows notebook. It has a core M-5Y10 Processor and an 8 GB DDR3 RAM. No optical Drive option but what you get is 256 GB of SSD. Not to forget its 13.3-Inch Full-HD IPS Anti-Glare Matte Display with as much as 170°viewing angles. It also has Dual-band 2-stream 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 for high-speed wireless connectivity.
From Keyboard & Touchpad to Function Keys, Brightness, to Bluetooth, WiFi – all work. One thing you might miss is Intel Wireless. For more info, see its Hackintosh Installation Guide.
Seems like Lenovo is everywhere! fourth and new hackintosh laptop in this list. It carries a 4th-Gen Intel Core i7-4510U clocked at 2.0 GHz. It has an 8GB DDR3L SDRAM and 15.6″ HD LED screen with integrated camera. Camera resolution is 1366×768.
Apart from its USB 2.0 ports, there isn’t any major issue in Lenovo G50-70 and, including WiFi, all other things work. To get these ports done, you’ll need to sacrifice Bluetooth. Whole procedure is mentioned in a guide. Here is its Hackintosh Installation Guide.
As I said earlier, this laptop wasn’t in original list which I first published in April. Few days back, I noticed it while researching on some other topic. I couldn’t resist myself but to include this one.
It carries a 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor and 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM to do all the computations. It also has a 15.6″ FHD IPS LED Backlight display. For storage, it has a 500 GB Hard drive plus 8 GB Solid State Drive too. For graphics handling, it contains NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB Dedicated Graphics Card.
Here is a part where you may feel disappointed – a little bit. Because by installing OS X, you won’t to able to use its dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M (Since OS X don’t support dedicated cards) and Intel Wireless-AC 3160 too. But think yourself, Would you dump a near-perfect hackintosh laptop just because you can’t play games on it?
If you don’t keep your focus on its Graphics Cards’ incompatibility, it can be pretty strong candidate. In case you want a hackintosh laptop. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide On TonyMac and YouTube Installation Guide .
Having a 4th generation i7 processor as its heart, Lenovo Z50 can be your ideal replacement for Macbook Pro. Even then, it has plenty more to offer you through its 1TB Hard Disk Drive, an 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 15.6″ Touchscreen and many other things. In the context of Hackintosh compatibility, you don’t need to worry about anything. Almost everything works perfectly fine. Be it USB ports (2.0 & 3.0), Ethernet, Touchpad or Bluetooth 4.0. Other utility features such as audio, Brightness Control, Intel Graphics HD 4000 also works without any glitches.
One single major issue you may have is Wi-Fi. Though has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connectivity, it will not work when you use it for Hackintosh. For this reason, you will probably have to buy a separate WiFi Dongle.
With all things working except Wifi, Lenovo Z50 can be your (second) nearest replacement for Macbook Pro 15″. You can view its Hackintosh Installation Guide here.
